Outer Hebrides

Barra

The small Island of Barra is just 20km around and has a large number of beautiful beaches, machair and gently hills. The people that live on Barra have a very strong sense of community and this is another good reason to go there. Castlebay is the largest village and on an islet in front, there's the beautiful Kisimul Castle.

Vatersay

The Island of Vatersay is connected to Barra by a causeway. There are very nice heritage trails that can be done and if you walk up Ben Cuier there is a wonderful view of Vatersay Bay.

Uist

The Islands of North and South Uist are mostly drowned by a large number of lochs, thus there are many kilometres of pure moorland. Uist is also a paradise for bird watchers and there is even a small number of wild hebredian ponies that live there.

Benbecula

If you don't watch out, you won't even notice you have passed the Island of Benbecula! It is connected to North and South Uist by causeways and probably there is more water than land on Benbecula.

Harris

North and South Harris are a combination of beautiful white and yellow coloured beaches, dramatic rocky hills, long stretches of machair and kilometres of tortuous costlines.

Lewis

The Island of Lewis is the most northerly Island of the Outer Hebrides, here during the summer the sun sets at around 11 pm and the best place to see it is at the Butt of Lewis, the rugged and windswept tip of Lewis. Dalbeg Bay is maybe one of the most beautiful bays of Scotland, another wonderful place for outstanding sun sets. The Dun Carloway Broch is a very well preserved 2000-year-old tower. The 54 Standing Stones of Callanish were built about 4000 years ago and represent a Celtic Cross.
